Overview
Plan testing for your product
Oilseeds and their by-products need an identity, use and sampling description. An edible seed, extracted meal and recovered oil cannot be assessed with one undifferentiated specification.
The final parameter set, analytical method and sample requirement are confirmed against the product type, applicable specification and testing objective.

Questions to resolve
Build the right testing scope
Commodity composition
Discuss moisture, oil or protein-related questions for the identified seed or by-product.
Contaminants
Select relevant residue, metal or mycotoxin questions for the commodity and use.
Use and processing
Separate edible-food requirements from feed or other applications.
Detailed coverage
Product groups and examples
Oil seeds
Sesame, soybean, groundnut, sunflower, niger, linseed, rapeseed, safflower, coconut, poppy and olive
Oil-seed by-products
Products and by-products derived from oil-seed processing

Preserve the product information
Describe the crop, processing or extraction state and intended use. Agree the sampling plan and protect the sample from moisture changes.
Confirm sample quantity, number of units, containers and transport conditions with Chem-Tech before dispatch. Turnaround is confirmed in the quotation after the scope is agreed.
Use the correct comparison
The intended use determines which requirement is relevant. A food-product standard does not automatically apply to a feed by-product.
Accredited coverage is confirmed for the material, parameter, method and laboratory location. Product standards and current amendments determine the relevant requirement; no single panel proves complete food safety.
